Whats a great shampoo and conditioner to use without all the build up?

A hairdresser had told me that shampoos I love like Tresemme and Pantene were actually not helping hair at all and just leaving a waxy coating on hair for it to appear smooth and soft.So what are some shampoos/conditioner I can use that wont leave build up, don't have that fake waxy coating, but will soften and clean hair at the same time and are just plain good for hair?
