The ear wax in my ear is dark red and sometimes black. is that a bad thing?

I have been losing hearing in my right ear and the waxy discharge has become increasingly dark red. I don't feel any pain but, I do have odd headache's that have been more and more frequent on that side of my head. I've tried cleaning it, using different methods, but I can't seem to fully clear it. sometimes when I use my little finger, I bring out a black to dark red clump. the question is... could it be a serious condition, or am I just being paranoid?
